HEIC to favicon

To convert a HEIC to a favicon, drop your HEIC into Logo2Favicon and it decodes the iPhone image format and produces a real multi-resolution favicon.ico plus all the PNG, Apple touch, Android, and maskable sizes - in your browser, nothing uploaded. HEIC is what iPhones save by default, but no browser uses it as a favicon, so it is converted into the standard set.

What this conversion is

A HEIC-to-favicon conversion decodes Apple's High Efficiency Image format - the default capture format on iPhones - and renders it into the standard icon set: favicon.ico, PNG favicons, Apple touch, Android, and maskable sizes, plus the manifest and HTML snippet. Browsers do not accept HEIC as a favicon, so converting is the only way to use an iPhone image as your site icon.

Why and when you need it

  • HEIC is the default iPhone photo format, but no browser uses it as a favicon - it must be converted to ICO/PNG.
  • The universal favicon.ico fallback browsers request from the site root cannot be a HEIC.
  • Apple touch and PWA surfaces expect PNG icons, so a single HEIC leaves your icon set incomplete.

How to do it with Logo2Favicon

  1. Open the generator. Open the Logo2Favicon generator on the homepage.
  2. Drop your HEIC. Upload or drag in your HEIC. A square image at 512x512px or larger works best; use the background-removal tool if it has a busy or solid backdrop.
  3. Generate the set. The tool decodes the HEIC and renders favicon.ico, the PNG sizes, Apple touch, Android, and maskable icons live in your browser - nothing is uploaded.
  4. Download and install. Download the ZIP, copy the files to your site root, and paste the included HTML snippet into your <head>.

Format gotchas

  • A HEIC referenced directly as a favicon will not work in any browser - you must convert it to favicon.ico and PNG icons.
  • Photographic HEIC captures rarely read at 16x16 - crop to a simple, high-contrast subject before generating.
  • If your browser cannot open the HEIC, export it to PNG or JPG on your device first, then drop that in.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a HEIC to a favicon?
Drop your HEIC into Logo2Favicon and it decodes the iPhone format and generates a multi-resolution favicon.ico plus all PNG, Apple, and PWA sizes in your browser. Download the ZIP and add the files to your site root.
Can I use a HEIC as a favicon directly?
No. No browser supports HEIC as a favicon, and favicon.ico cannot be a HEIC. You must convert it to the standard ICO/PNG set, which is exactly what this tool does.
Why is my image a HEIC?
iPhones save photos as HEIC by default for smaller files. It is great for storage but not for the web, so converting to favicon.ico and PNG icons is required to use it as a site icon.
Is my HEIC uploaded to a server?
No. Logo2Favicon decodes and converts entirely in your browser, so your HEIC never leaves your device. That keeps it private and makes generation instant.
